OFNL is the network behind your broadband
OFNL stands for Open Fibre Networks Limited. It owns and operates an open-access fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network, focused on new residential and commercial developments. You buy a broadband package from a participating internet service provider, rather than directly from OFNL. Source: OFNL about us.
Network operator and broadband provider: different jobs
- OFNL maintains the local fibre infrastructure. FTTP means fibre reaches the property.
- Your provider supplies your service and manages your account. Contact that provider about orders, bills, service faults and router support. Source: OFNL resident FAQs.

Can I choose any provider?
Open access means providers can join the network; it does not mean every UK broadband provider sells a residential service on it. OFNL publishes a residential provider directory and recommends checking which providers serve your location. Confirm the exact address and package with your chosen provider before ordering.
Are all OFNL packages the same?
The local access network is shared, but packages can have different download and upload speeds, contract lengths, routers, setup charges and support arrangements. Some packages have equal upload and download speeds; others do not. A shared network is not evidence that every provider delivers an identical customer experience.
How should I compare the price?
Compare minimum-term cost, the starting monthly bill and any scheduled price increases. Include mandatory setup and equipment charges, and check whether the quoted router is optional. Frequently asked questions
Is OFNL the same as Openreach?
No. They operate separate networks. Openreach also offers full fibre, alongside older technologies. The networks available at your exact address determine which services you can order. Read our OFNL and Openreach comparison.
Can I switch OFNL broadband provider?
Ask the new provider to confirm availability and arrange the switch. Check your current contract for early termination charges and confirm the activation date, equipment and any setup cost. Switching can involve an interruption; we do not promise zero downtime. Source: Ofcom switching guidance.
Where should I start if I am moving in?
